About Us

For three decades Invision Services has provided best practices in special education and sensory impaired services to public school systems and adult clients in North Carolina and Minnesota.

In 1985 John Higgins, newly graduated from Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in Blind Rehabilitation with an emphasis in Orientation & Mobility, was fortunate to become the first O&M Specialist hired by a North Carolina Public School system.

Inspired by two North Carolina educators who put children’s’ needs first to create that first O&M Specialist position — Gail Waters, the forward-thinking Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments, and Thelma Watkins, an insightful, hard working public school administrator — John saw the need for more accessible specialized education and rehabilitation services for students with sensory impairments throughout North Carolina and his native Minnesota to establish Invision in 1992.

Invision is a private practice created to meet the unique education and rehabilitation needs of students and adults with sensory impairments and other disabilities. Invision enhances and enriches the lives of people we serve through goal-driven education, face-to-face and virtual learning, and growth of the whole individual.

“My daughter delights in her time with her instructor…together they have partnered to discuss strategies for living a life with a disability. She has empowered my daughter to speak up and never be afraid, to navigate the classroom and life. For that, I am forever grateful.”

Elizabeth

Parent of Student with Visual Impairment

“I would like to thank you all your help when I lost more than 90% of my vision. I truly cannot express adequately my appreciation for the education, the care, and the information that helped me to once again become mostly independent and able and willing to socialize in spite of an entirely new set of circumstances.”

Terry

Invision Client

“It’s great to have colleagues that support me, encourage me, and facilitate my growth. My only wish is that I’d started on this journey working with those with visual impairments years ago.”
